Water Filtration & Purification
We offer a range of water filtration systems ranging from domestic household filters though to large commercial sand filters capable of processing large volumes of water. These units are well suited to the dairy industry where high iron and poor water quality are not accepted.

The new standard required by the dairy companies for cowshed plant washing is a maximum of 3 faecal coliform/100ml and a maximum turbidity level of 5 NTU.
Faecal matter from effluent, cows, birds, opossum, rats etc, is likely to contain pathogenic organisms. If water has tested positive to these organisms it would be reported as containing faecal coliforms or e-coli. One of the easiest methods of treating water for these bacteria or virus type organisms is filtration followed by ultra-violet (UV) disinfection.
A typical combination of treatment equipment for potable (drinking) water, would be as follows. This does include a 1 micron (μ) Giardia filter which would be an optional extra for the milking plant.
Total price for this complete point of entry [POE] system is $1,447.00 (+GST).
It is quite feasible to install larger units that are capable of treating both household and shed water, or if necessary, whole farm supplies. If treating household supplies as well, it is recommended that the 1 micron filter be installed prior to entry into the house to protect against the protozoa Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Note: the standard for potable (drinking) water is nil faecal coliform/100ml and 0.5 NTU (this is lower than for the dairy plant).
Turbidity may be caused by fine silt or suspended matter and may be taken out by simple cartridge filtration as shown above. It may also be caused by contaminants such as iron or manganese, in which case other more sophisticated types of filtration may be needed.
If you have these conditions it requires a chemical analysis to allow for correct diagnosis of the problem. Most failed filtration systems are a direct result of misdiagnosis (guessing the severity of the problem), or under specifying treatment options to save money.

Sediment Removal
Melt-blown polypropylene cartridges offer a self-supporting, thermally fused media that requires no separate center core. Thermally-bonded fibers will not migrate or contaminate the filtered water.

Taste, Odor and Lead Removal
Carbon block filters provide chlorine and lead reduction capabilities that exceed typical granular activated carbon (GAC) filters. All carbon filters are wrapped with a polypropylene layer that protects the carbon to lengthen filter life.

Cyst Removal
The Autotrol brand cyst filter, manufactured from melt-blown polypropylene fibers, allows for the removal of cysts down to 1 micron.

Duplex Carbon Filter
The duplex carbon filter (DCF) is unique in that it does the work of both a prefilter and a carbon filter. Constructed of 100% melt-blown polypropylene wrapped around a carbon block core, the DCF utilizes two superior types of filter technology. The polypropylene layer captures sediment and allows the carbon core to remove chlorine and smaller particles.

Rain water collection and storage is typical in many rural households with delivery to usage via a pressure pump. The water quality water is generally good chemically although it does tend to be slightly acidic. Physically, it normally carries some dust (which comes with the rain) and other windblown debris. The biggest problem however is the potential for biological contamination.
Faecal matter from birds, opossum, etc., on exposed roofs and guttering are likely to contain pathogenic organisms. If tested, this water would be reported as containing faecal coliforms or Ecoli and this is totally unacceptable for a domestic supply. The most efficient method for treating this is filtration followed by ultraviolet [UV] disinfection.
A probable combination of treatment equipment for a typical 3 or 4 bedroom country home would be as follows:
Total price for this complete household point of entry [POE] system is about $1,192.50 (+GST), depending upon the exact configuration chosen.
Please note that there are both smaller and larger filters and UV systems which may be appropriate, depending on the circumstances.
Often other sources of water such as bore, stream, lake, springs, etc., may be used instead of or to supplement the tank water. In some of these cases the treatment may need to be varied or extended to suit particular problems. If in doubt contact us for further advice.

Double O Ring Housings
The Double O ring Housings [DOH] are made from food grade polypropylene [PP].
The double sealing rings seated on the wall of the body ensure that, with minimal tightening, good contact is made with the head. The bond is so secure that a unit being tested for New Zealand Standard 3497, never leaked until the housing actually split at 4,100 kPa (587 psi).

Stream/spring gathered drinking water is typical in many rural households. The quality of water in terms of mineral/chemical content is variable and there is always potential for biological contamination.
Run-off from rain water on both reserve and grazing land into streams, open springs and shallow bores can contain faecal matter from animals and birds; both domestic and wild.
If tested, this water would be reported as containing E-coli or faecal coliforms, which are totally unacceptable for a domestic supply. The most efficient method for treating this is filtration followed by ultra-violet [UV] disinfection.
A probable combination of treatment equipment for a typical 3 or 4 bedroom country home would be as follows:
In many instances there may also be chemical and physical attributes in the water to consider. This can vary from hard water (likely to cause calcification), through to very soft, acidic water (likely to dissolve metal pipes and fittings). There may be excessive nitrates, pesticides, iron or some other natural or introduced chemical of health concern. If in doubt, a water analysis will identify any potential problems other than biological.
Alternative Under Bench Housing (Left)
Introducing the new Envir-Flo double O ring housing for under bench applications where carbon or speciality filters are required.
Where KDF-GAC in-line filters are not required or impractical, the double O ring housing fits perfectly into the under bench situation and will take all internationally sized filter cartridges.
With the two sealing rings mounted in the head, this housing can withstand higher than normal pressures without leaking and system integrity can even be established without the use of a spanner.
Alternative Under Bench Housing (Right)
An economical Under-Bench water filter unit designed to fit into almost any situation.
The KDF-GAC filter media is designed to remove or reduce a greater range of contaminants from the water while still providing good longevity.
Designer Taps
All models have a chrome finish, ceramic plate mechanisms and all are only a ¼ turn on/off.
Standard Lever/Plunger taps, in both Short and Long Reach, are also available.
